Nicholas County man is killed in ATV accident

Authorities say charges are pending against a Craigsville man after an ATV accident Monday in Nicholas County which claimed the life of his passenger.

At 1 p.m. Monday, the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department and the West Virginia State Police were dispatched to an ATV accident on State Route 20 (Webster Road) in Craigsville, according to a release from the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department.

Mike DuFour, 38, of Craigsville, was driving a 1988 Honda 250 X ATV, with Danny R. Hall, 50, also of Craigsville, as a passenger, the release stated. A tire came off the ATV, and both Hall and DuFour were thrown from the ATV and over a guard rail. Both landed approximately 70 feet over an embankment.

Hall was airlifted to Summersville Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the release stated. DuFour was flown from Summersville Memorial Hospital to Cabell-Huntington Hospital for treatment.

DuFour had been released from Cabell-Huntington Hospital, as of Tuesday afternoon, according to information from the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation by Deputy R.T. Allison.
