An Oceana man was charged in connection with a robbery attempt at Oceana Professional Pharmacy in the wee hours of Friday morning.
Oceana Police Department responded to an alarm just after 5:30 a.m., according to Chief Jeff Barlow.
Officers found Clarence Ronald Kirk, 34, outside the pharmacy building, Barlow said, and he was detained until further investigation. Officers determined Kirk used a ladder and climbed on top of the roof, then forced his way into the attic, Barlow said.
The alarm went off and Kirk fled the building, but not before causing substantial damage, Barlow added.
Kirk told officers he was attempting to steal copper, Barlow said.
He was charged with breaking and entering and two counts of destruction of property. He is currently in Southern Regional Jail on $10,000 bond.
Assistant Chief R.L. Paynter and Patrolman R.L. Johnson are conducting the investigation. The two arrived on scene approximately 30 seconds after receiving the call from Wyoming County Emergency Services dispatchers, according to Barlow.
