RAINELLE — Christopher Avis, 30, of Rainelle, was charged with embezzlement and 10 counts of uttering after money went missing from his workplace, reported Rainelle Police Chief J.P. Stevens.

After noticing money missing in the till, a manager at the Go-Mart in Rainelle where Avis worked examined the store’s video surveillance footage and a person he believed to be the suspect stealing lottery tickets, said Stevens.

Police examined three months of video tape and saw the same person allegedly take money from customers and then void the sale and pocket the cash.

Stevens explained the 10 counts of uttering against Avis are for the lottery tickets which were cashed for a total of $125 in illegal winnings.

Avis was arrested Thursday and is now out on $15,000 bond, said police.
