Multiple guns used to shoot vehicle

Between four to five varieties of guns were used to fire shots at a vehicle parked outside a Bland Street business early Thursday morning.

The incident was reported at approximately 12:10 a.m. after shots were fired at a Nissan Pathfinder parked outside a Bland Street body shop near the intersection with College Avenue, said Lt. G.W. Lightfoot with the Bluefield Police Department.

No injuries were reported, Lightfoot stated Thursday afternoon.

Investigators estimated that four to five different types guns were used to shoot at the vehicle. Lightfoot, who is not the investigating officer, said he did not know how many times the Pathfinder had been hit or how seriously the vehicle had been damaged by the gunfire.

Damage to other property was not reported. The types of guns used during the incident have not been identified because the investigation is in its early stages, and a motive remained to be found, Lightfoot stated.

Multiple people were involved in the shooting, Lightfoot said. How many participated had not been determined.

Patrolman J.J. Harris is the investigating officer, Lightfoot stated. Harris was not available for additional comment Thursday afternoon. A destruction of property complaint was filed soon after the shooting was reported, and the complainants were advised of their options.
