Ansted man arrested for false 911 calls

— Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an 18-year-old Ansted man Tuesday following a false 911 call to the Fayette Emergency Operations Center and a foot chase.

Jonathan D. Crist, 18, of Victor, was charged with misdemeanor offenses of obstructing a police officer and fleeing on foot from an officer.

A juvenile petition is expected to be filed later against a 17-year-old male accomplice.

According to Fayette Sheriff Steve Kessler, the 911 center received a call around 2:30 a.m. that two individuals in the Ansted area were breaking out windows at a Shell station and might be stealing merchandise.

During an investigation, deputies discovered no windows broken and assessed that the call had been false.

As they looked over other area businesses, they saw Crist and the teen-ager running.

The deputies chased the boys through several yards and a wooded area and nabbed them.

Crist admitted that he and his accomplice had placed the false call. He was arrested and arraigned before a Fayette magistrate.

Crist was remanded to Southern Regional Jail in lieu of a $1,000 bond.

The juvenile was released to his parents, pending the filing of juvenile petitions for misdemeanor offense.

“Placing a false 911 call is a crime, not a joke,” said Kessler. “This prank tied up five deputy sheriffs for an extended period of time and resulted in several of my deputies sustaining minor injuries during the foot pursuit.”
