A second Shady Spring High School student has been arrested and charged with making terroristic threats, following an investigation by Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office detectives.
The student was at the school when police took him into custody Thursday morning, officials said.
Police say it appears that two students were planning an attack on Shady classmates, although they were apparently in the beginning stages when a parent noticed a threat on Instagram and reported it to Shady Spring Principal Daniel Moye on Dec. 1.
One of the students was arrested immediately.
The threats made references to Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., where two male students shot to death 12 fellow students and a teacher in the school on April 20, 1999.
“We’ve been on this non-stop since (Dec. 1),” said Detective Larry Lilly with the Raleigh Sheriff’s Office. “It appears there may have been something planned, well into the future, but there wasn’t an immediate danger.
“The investigation uncovered some pretty scary and serious things.”
