BECKLEY —
A Beckley man is dead after a car crash early Sunday morning in Prosperity.
Police say the wreck occurred around 12:10 a.m. on Prosperity Road, when a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Nicholas Harris, of Beckley, crashed into a tree. A passenger, 20-year-old Chessie McGraw, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Harris was transported to Raleigh General Hospital and was later airlifted to Charleston Area Medical Center, where a hospital spokesperson said he is “under evaluation.”
Another passenger, 22-year-old Loretta Davis, was injured and transported to Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. Davis was later transferred to CAMC, where she was undergoing treatment.
Police say the victims had to be extricated from the vehicle by Bradley Prosperity and Mount Hope Fire Departments.
The accident is under investigation by Deputy J.B. Grose, Sgt. W.J. Crist and Cpl. J.L. Redden of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.
