Police find a body in a riverbed in McDowell County

JOLO — A body has been found in a river in McDowell County, police said Friday.

The body was found by a person walking down the road along a riverbed adjacent to state Route 83 in Jolo, according to McDowell County Sheriff Martin West.

West said the body has been identified as Michael Vestal, 45, of Jolo.

The man was last seen Wednesday. Police are still trying to determine his cause of death. Nothing has been ruled at this point in the investigation, according to Sgt. James Muncy, also with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department.

Muncy said anyone with information concerning the investigation, or the whereabouts or activities of Vestel after he was last seen Wednesday should contact the sheriff's office at  304-436-8523.

The incident is being investigated by  Detective R. L. Blevins or Deputy R. L. Jones .
