Sex offender charged with attempt to commit felony

BECKLEY —

A Maryland sex offender was arrested Saturday and charged with attempt to commit a felony and failure to register, according to Beckley Police.

Antoine Moliere, 53, of Shady Spring, was originally convicted of sexual abuse of a minor in January 2005 in Dundalk, Md.

Police were dispatched to the area of North Kanawha Street around 11:30 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a suspicious male in the area.

Cpl. Capehart said Moliere attempted to lure a 7-year-old female into his van while she was outside her home playing. The mother then called the police.

Several witnesses provided testimony, police said, and the name of the suspect was found.

Capehart said with the help of Trooper 1st Class M.S. Efird with the Beckley Detachment of the State Police, they were able to locate and arrest Moliere.
