— After violating his probation, a Beckley man’s sentence for first degree robbery was reinstated and he was additionally charged with child abuse resulting in injury.

James Edward Pratt Jr., 21, fled from Beckley officers trying to arrest him on a capias, according to Raleigh County Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Tom Truman.

Truman said Pratt’s 2-year-old son was with him while he was on the run, and was consequently scratched up from running through the woods.

He said the situation could have ended much worse, as a K-9 unit was hot on the trail and the guy kept running, but Pratt surrendered.

Pratt pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in injury and was sentenced by Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick to one to five years, to run consecutively with his re-imposed sentence.
