Hinton man’s trial delayed

A trial for a Summers County resident was rescheduled Tuesday during a status hearing in Mercer County Circuit Court.

Jerry Berry, 52, of Hinton, appeared before Circuit Court Judge Derek Swope. A trial was scheduled for Oct. 29, but it has been postponed until Jan. 28, 2014, according to information with the Mercer County Circuit Clerk’s Office.

Berry faces charges including embezzlement and fraudulent scheme, according to court records.

In 2012, Berry applied for and was offered the position of economic development director for the city of Bluefield. He withdrew his name from consideration in April 2012 after an agreement could not be reached about a contract.
