From Staff Reports
A jewelry theft early Wednesday at Kmart in Beckley Plaza may be linked to several similar crimes in the area, Beckley Police Department Detective Morgan Bragg reported.
Around 4:15 a.m., Beckley officers were alerted via alarm to a break-in at the department store, said Bragg.
Police discovered that a window had been shattered and that someone had entered the building.
A jewelry case had been smashed open, and jewelry had been stolen, along with other items, said Bragg.
Detectives were reviewing store surveillance tapes Wednesday afternoon, he added.
Store managers were still assessing the value of the stolen merchandise on Wednesday.
Bragg said the break-in could be related to similar break-ins at Schewel’s Furniture, Aaron’s Lease to Own and Rent-A-Center at Beckley Crossing.
In those cases, the suspect broke store windows with a rock and stole merchandise from the store.
All of the thefts are still under investigation by BPD detectives.
Anyone with information on any of the crimes may contact Crime Stoppers at 304-255-STOP.
