An approximate 8-mile vehicle pursuit followed by a foot chase in the woods near New Haven Monday led to the arrest of a Meadow Bridge man by Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies.
Sheriff Steve Kessler said deputies were conducting a “saturation patrol detail” in Meadow Bridge when they saw an improperly registered blue Oldsmobile Cutlass 88. When the deputies tried to stop the vehicle, its driver, Eugene Victor Jones, 42, allegedly attempted to flee police by driving across Backus Mountain Road before stopping at the woods along Goddard Cemetery Road, Kessler said.
When the vehicle stopped, Jones allegedly got out and began trekking on foot through the woods for approximately a quarter mile, when he was apprehended by the deputy pursuing him, according to Kessler.
Jones has been charged with a felony count of fleeing in a vehicle with reckless disregard for public safety and taken to the Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment.
The incident remains under investigation by Deputy S.G. Milam and Sgt. S.M. Gray.
Kessler said no one was injured and no property was damaged during the pursuit.
