Baileysville man is accused of beating his grandparents

A Baileysville man is facing several felony charges as a result of a violent domestic situation Thursday evening.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a hostage situation about 5:30 p.m., according to Sheriff Randall Aliff.

Medwin Willard, 33, who lived with his grandparents, reportedly held his grandparents and a juvenile hostage at knife-point after an argument turned violent, Aliff said.

Willard allegedly beat both his grandparents, then fled in their truck, police said.

The Sheriff’s Department caught him about 30 minutes later, near Sun Hill, Aliff said.

Willard’s grandmother had to be flown to a Charleston hospital for treatment and his grandfather was transported to an area hospital, the sheriff said. Their conditions were not known Friday afternoon.

Willard, who has a criminal history, remains in Southern Regional Jail and is charged with two counts of malicious wounding, three counts of kidnapping, grand larceny for stealing the elderly couple’s truck and two counts of violent crimes against the elderly, according to Aliff.

The investigation is continuing.
