Police apprehend two men on burglary charges in Beckley

BECKLEY — Beckley Police arrested two men as they were attempting to steal copper wire from a vacant residence on Quarry Avenue early Monday, Sgt. Dean R. Bailey reported.

Police identified the suspects as Brandon Corey Mays, 21, and Brandon Christopher McMillion, also 21.

A resident of a neighboring home called Raleigh County Emergency Operations dispatchers to report that two men were on the vacant property, said Bailey.

When Sgt. R. Redden and Patrolman R. Cuevas arrived at the house, they spotted light from flashlights inside, said Bailey.

The officers went into the house and saw two suspects allegedly cutting copper wire from the breaker box in the basement, said Bailey.

Police also discovered tools that had been used in the break-in, he added.

Mays and McMillion were charged with one count each of nighttime burglary, petit larceny, destruction of property and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Both were incarcerated at Southern Regional Jail Monday, each under a $50,000 bond.
