Two Raleigh men indicted on first-degree murder charges

BECKLEY — Two Raleigh County men were indicted last week on charges of first-degree murder and use of a firearm.

Christopher Wayne Bowling, 38, of Shady Spring, is charged with killing his wife Tresa on Jan. 31.

At his preliminary hearing, police testified that Bowling told a 911 dispatcher he had been unloading his handgun and had “somehow” shot his wife. Detective Cpl. Jim Bare also testified that  there were inconsistencies with Bowling’s story. Probable cause was found to send the case to the grand jury.

Jermaine Antoine Johnson, 19, of Beckley, allegedly killed 33-year-old Monika Martin on March 27. Beckley police said Martin was found dead inside her apartment at 416 S. Fayette St.; they believe she was shot multiple times.

Johnson has been in the Southern Regional Jail since April 2 after he turned himself in on arrest warrants, charging him in a second South Fayette Street shooting that took place March 31.
