Greenbrier deputy sheriff suspended

LEWISBURG — A Greenbrier County sheriff’s deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation proceeds, according to Sheriff James Childers.

Childers confirmed the deputy is Cpl. R.A. “Adam” Martin, who heads up the sheriff’s department’s child abuse investigative unit. The sheriff declined to comment on the nature of the internal investigation, deferring to Charleston attorney John R. Teare Jr., who represents the department.

Teare said, “This a confidential employee matter.”

He noted, “An internal investigation is under way, and the officer is not charged with any violations. It is appropriate, under the circumstances, not having (Martin) represent the Sheriff’s Department.

“I am hopeful we can conclude this investigation quickly, for all involved. Facts are developing as we go.”
