Police searching for female escapee from correctional center

Police are on the lookout for a woman who is missing from the Beckley Correctional Center.

Amanda Renee Taylor, 36, was allowed to go on a two-hour shopping trip, but never returned to the facility.

Taylor is serving one to five years for operating or attempting to operate clandestine drug laboratories and an additional three years and nine months for fraud with an access device. These charges are from Kanawha County.

Taylor is described as a white female with brown hair and brown eyes, approximately 5-foot-5 and 175 pounds.

She has no known scars, but has multiple tattoos, including “TLW” in a star on her right back upper arm, “Issues” on right wrist, “13 1/3” on right hand on top, “Galeah” on left back forearm, heart and love on left front lower leg, a tiger on her right front upper leg, praying hands and a cross with the names “Jenny” and “Patty” on left front forearm, a heart and “3-8-1” on back torso, and a dove and “SML” on the back of her neck.

  • Raleigh grand jury hands down 89 indictments

    The mother and stepfather accused in the death of a 2-year-old boy were among the 89 indictments handed down by the Raleigh County Grand Jury.
    Brandy Smallwood, 28, and James Green, 24, both of Fairdale, were charged Feb. 10 in connection with the death of 2-year-old Graydon Morgan.
    Green was indicted for first degree murder, death of a child by child abuse, child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, child neglect resulting in death and child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury.
    The indictment against Smallwood if for death of a child by child abuse, child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, child neglect resulting in death and child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury.

    The Beckley Police Department will conduct a DUI Sobriety Checkpoint from 9 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday on Pinewood Drive. An alternate location will be U.S. 19. The checkpoint will be supported by roving DUI Enforcement Patrols throughout the evening and night time hours.
