RONCEVERTE —
A Ronceverte woman arrested Monday will face charges of making a false 911 call and giving false and misleading information to police, city authorities said.
Assistant police chief Rusty Byer Jr. said Amanda Burns placed a call to 911, claiming a laptop computer, printer and two long rifle firearms were stolen from her residence. She then made a written statement to the police to that effect.
“I investigated, receiving several tips from the community that she had sold the property,” Byer said. “I then received a call from an individual in Mercer County who had a bill of sale for the items that were reported stolen. Burns’ signature was on the bill of sale, and I verified her signature against the signature on the police report.”
Byers said he interviewed Burns again and she gave a taped confession.
