— A raid in Summers County Wednesday started at 11 a.m. and was still in full force by evening, as West Virginia State Police Hinton detachment swept through Hinton and surrounding areas, arresting those suspected of drug violations.

Hinton Police Chief Derek Snavely said his department assisted in the roundup, which he said stemmed from a slew of 54 indictments that had been presented to a special grand jury Tuesday.

According to reports, dozens had already been arrested Wednesday afternoon, and Snavely said police were still in the process of rounding up others who are suspected of breaking the law.

He added that most of the charges involved illegal delivery, or selling, of drugs.

“Most of them were cooperative,” Snavely described those arrested. “It’s kind of one of those things, I guess, they all expected to come, eventually.”
