Two men plead guilty in Raleigh court

A 20-year-old man pleaded guilty Tuesday to malicious assault and conspiracy to commit a felony before Raleigh County Circuit Court Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick.

Christopher Allen Ramey was initially charged with kidnapping as well, but that charge was dismissed through a plea agreement.

Raleigh County Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Tom Truman said Ramey and several co-conspirators held a drug dealer’s girlfriend as collateral when they thought the dealer stiffed them on a purchase of eight oxycodone pills for $280. Truman added that the victim was severely beaten up.

Kirkpatrick sentenced Ramey to two to 10 years for malicious wounding and one to five years for conspiracy to run consecutively; however, that sentence is suspended and Ramey is being treated as a youthful offender.

Ramey will be sent to the Anthony Center for six months to two years. Upon his release, he will return to court for a final disposition.

Another 20-year-old pleaded guilty Tuesday before Judge Kirkpatrick.

Robert Paul Treadway, of Surveyor, pleaded guilty to daytime, non-forced entry, burglary and obstructing an officer.

As part of his plea agreement, Treadway’s other charges of petit larceny and possession of marijuana were dismissed.

Truman said Treadway went into his neighbor’s unlocked basement and took four aluminum wheels and a grapevine tree.

His neighbor watched him load the items into a truck, and when he confronted him, Treadway replied that he had stolen the items from somebody in Beckley.

When police arrived on scene, Treadway confessed to the arresting officer.

Kirkpatrick accepted the guilty pleas, and granted a motion for Treadway’s current bond to remain in place.

Treadway’s sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
