Woman charged with robbing Dollar General

After crashing her car and getting help from a stranger, a Fayette County woman is in jail, charged with robbing the Dollar General on Jones Avenue in Oak Hill, police officials said.

Tiffany Rose Newman, 33, of Fayetteville, was charged after she allegedly took an unknown amount of money from the store.

Oak Hill Police Chief Mike Whisman said police got a call around 11:30 a.m. saying a female suspect had robbed the store and fled in a silver, four-door car.

“Just seconds later, 911 called back and advised that the suspect’s vehicle ... had wrecked on the old railroad tracks, which are close to the Dollar General,” Whisman said. “She fled the wreck and flagged down a passer-by and got in his vehicle.

“That vehicle was stopped a little ways from the scene. That vehicle had nothing to do with it, but she was apprehended out of that vehicle. The suspect had no weapon.”

Whisman said the same Dollar General was robbed a couple of months ago.
