Worker injured at Alpha mine, hospitalized

— A Raleigh County mine worker suffered serious injuries Saturday afternoon at the Alpha Natural Resources’ Marfork Coal Slip Ridge #1 Mine.

The miner, who was not identified,  was injured when a rock hit his hip, state emergency officials said.

The miner was hospitalized with injuries that were described as “fairly serious,” according to a report in the Charleston Gazette.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Inspectors were on the scene at the mine late Saturday night.
