Attempted robbery reported at residence

BECKLEY — Beckley Police responded to a report of a robbery around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Maryland Avenue, Capt. Jeff Shumate reported.

A resident at the Maryland Avenue address said four males, two black and two white, knocked on their door and asked to use the telephone, said Shumate.

One of the residents left the home through a back door and walked around to the home’s front to attempt to identify the suspects.

The four suspects then saw the victim, brandished a handgun and told the victim he was being robbed.

They attempted to lead him back into the residence, but the victim broke free and ran inside, said police.

The four suspects forced their way inside but fled the scene when one of the residents told them they had their own weapon, he said.

The suspects were driving a small silver passenger vehicle with missing hubcaps, possibly a Honda.

Anyone with information about this attempted robbery should contact the Beckley Police Department, 304-256-1708, or call Crime Stoppers, 304-255-STOP.
