Diesel fuel spilled in wreck

An accident on Whitewater Avenue in Fayetteville closed one lane of traffic for a few hours, thanks to 210 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the tanker truck involved in the wreck.

According to the Fayette County Emergency Operations Center, the accident occurred around 7 a.m. Tuesday. The truck, which collided with a Chevrolet SUV, lost its entire load of diesel fuel, an EOC spokesperson said.

One lane of traffic remained open while the accident and the fuel were cleared from the roadway, the spokesperson said.

Fayetteville Police Department, Fayetteville Fire Department and Jan-Care Ambulance Service responded to the accident; there were no injuries.

Evergreen Environmental Management and the Division of Highways were on hand to clean up the spilled diesel fuel.

The spokesperson did not know which vehicle was at fault in the accident or if any charges had been filed.
