Three men tried to break up a fight in Coal City early Sunday morning and were slashed with a razor blade, police said.
Danny Leon Lilly, 45, of Jonben, is charged with brandishing, assault and three counts of malicious wounding, said Raleigh County sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dave Stafford. Lilly is being held in the Southern Regional Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
The charges against Lilly stem from an incident at Missy’s Diner, located at 2075 Coal City Road, Stafford said. At 1:55 a.m. Sunday, Lilly and another man got into an argument.
Barry Sexton, 40, of Coal City; Edward Lowery, 40, of Crab Orchard; and Lester Perdue, 54, of Coal City tried to break up the altercation between the two, Stafford said. Lilly cut all three with a razor blade.
Sexton, Lowery and Perdue sustained multiple injuries on their faces, arms and hands, Stafford said. None of their injuries appeared to be life-threatening, and they were treated at local hospitals.
Stafford said alcohol was a factor in this incident. What sparked the altercation is unknown.
