Hearings continued for suffocated infants’ parents

Preliminary hearings for the parents of two infant children who died of suffocation as they slept were continued Wednesday in Fayette County Magistrate Court.

Ashley Nicole Penson, 24, and Kyle Ralph Penson, 27, both of the Hilltop area, each face two felony counts of child neglect resulting in death in connection to the March 11 incident that resulted in the deaths of 3-month-old Remington Penson and 1-year-old Jessie Penson.

Police say the the pair negligently used alcohol and/or marijuana before falling asleep on the floor with the children, then rolling over on them during the night, causing the infants to suffocate.

They are scheduled to appear in court on July 1, according to the Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
