A 30-year-old Beckley man was arrested Wednesday for failing to register as a child abuser, according to the West Virginia State Police.
John Gilbert Miller was convicted in 2007 for child neglect creating risk of injury of a 3-year-old in Fayette County and must register as a child abuse registrant for 10 years.
Officers found that Miller had moved from his last registered address in Beckley in July 2013. He failed to respond to the Beckley detachment to register the change of the address, and further failed to notify of his new address.
His location was unknown and he failed to register the change of information within the required 10 days.
Miller turned himself in and was arrested on warrants for two misdemeanor counts of failing to register as a child abuser. He faces a possible year sentence for each count and up to a $10,000 fine.
He is being held at Southern Regional Jail, pending arraignment.
Any second or subsequent offense for failure to register as a child abuser is a felony with a possible sentence of one to five years.
