RAINELLE — Ryan Cadle, 30, of Rainelle, was charged Thursday with cruelty to animals, reported Rainelle Police Chief J.P. Stevens.

In January, the Rainelle Police Department responded to Cadle’s Sixth Street home after a neighbor reported his boxer was so emaciated it could barely stand, he said.

Stevens said the dog was so starved its belly had ballooned in the final stages of starvation and it was shaking uncontrollably.

The boxer was taken to the vet then sent to the Greenbrier Country Humane Society animal shelter where it has gained a nearly normal weight.

Stevens said Cadle confessed to locking the sick dog up for several weeks and not getting it medical treatment.

Cadle has been charged with cruelty to animals, failure to vaccinate against rabies, failure to register a dog, providing false information to a police officer and violating the leash law.

Stevens said Cadle is now out on $2,500 bond.
