Man arrested at Victor fire scene

A Victor man is behind bars in the Southern Regional Jail after he tried to prevent fire crews from putting out a fire at his own home, located along Saturday Road, Wednesday evening. A preliminary examination of the fire scene indicates a possibility that the fire was intentionally started, Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler said.

Ralph Allen Bostick, 50, allegedly stood in the road and attempted to stop Ansted and Nuttall fire department firefighters from reaching the home that was on fire, Kessler stated. Bostick allegedly told firefighters “Let it burn.”

When Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the scene, they saw Bostick, who was visibly intoxicated, trying to walk away. Kessler stated that a preliminary investigation at Bostick’s home indicated that Appalachian Electric Power had disconnected the service, but someone had reconnected the electric.

Deputies then took Bostick into custody and charged him with two counts of obstructing a firefighter, defrauding a public utility and public intoxication.

The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation by Corporal J.R. McMullen and Detective W.K. Willis of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
