— Fayette County authorities are searching for a suspect in an armed robbery at the Alloy Go Mart early Thursday morning.

Sheriff Steve Kessler said the man approached the night transaction window about  3:43 a.m. and asked for two cartons of Marlboro cigarettes and two packs of Sonoma cigarettes.

After the clerk totaled the items, the man showed what is described as a dark-colored semi-automatic pistol, possibly a Glock, with green fiber-optic sights and demanded cash, four more cartons of Marlboros and three White Owl Blunts grape-flavored cigars. The clerk complied with the man and passed to him a bag with the items through the night transaction window drawer. Kessler says that in addition to the tobacco products, the suspect got away with a little more than $200 in cash before he fled on foot toward Gauley Bridge.

Sheriff’s deputies are reviewing video surveillance taken during the robbery; however, evidence gathered at the scene indicates that the suspect likely got into a vehicle parked in the area of the Alloy Employees Federal Credit Union, near the entrance to Elkem Metals, and then rode east along U.S. 60 toward Gauley Bridge.

Kessler said authorities have not determined if the man had an accomplice.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 5 foot 8 inches and 5 foot 10 inches tall, with a slim build and dark-colored facial hair. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, and the hood partially obscured his facial features.

The incident is under investigation by Lt. L.A. Crisp and the Detective Bureau of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 304-574-4216, Crime Stoppers at 304-255-7867, or online through the crime tips section of the sheriff’s office website,, or through the department’s Facebook page, Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
