Two fail to update information

BECKLEY — Two Raleigh County men have been charged with failure to update their sex offender registration information, according to a press release from the Beckley detachment of West Virginia State Police.

William Henry Dews was convicted of second degree sexual assault in 1985 and is required to complete a sex offender update form 10 days prior to any change to his registration information; he failed to do so, the release said.

According to the State Police, on Feb. 22, Dews obtained a post office box in Beaver and didn’t notify authorities.

Charles Allen Owens was convicted in 1987 of first degree sexual assault and also must complete an update form 10 days prior to any change to his information.

On Feb. 28, the release said, Owens obtained a cell phone and did not notify authorities.

Both men were charged with one felony count of failure to comply with the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry Act and were arraigned before Raleigh County Magistrate Greg Tanner, posted $25,000 bond each and were released.

If convicted, they face confinement in a state correctional facility for not less than one year nor more than five years.
