State Police nab Ga. fugitive, 3 others for suspected meth lab

— A minor traffic stop led police to a tip that resulted in the apprehension of a Georgia fugitive and the arrests of three others also suspected of operating a methamphetamine lab in Rainelle, West Virginia State Police Trooper First Class W.S. Snyder of the Rainelle detachment reported Tuesday.

Snyder said that he was patrolling U.S. 60 outside of Rainelle Sunday when he noticed a vehicle light burnt out on a   passing car.

When he stopped the car, Snyder said, he discovered the driver had “drug paraphernalia with meth in it.”

After charging the driver with a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance, he began interviewing the motorist and discovered that a methamphetamine lab was being operated at 737 South Sewell Street, Snyder said.

When police investigated, they discovered materials used to produce methamphetamine inside the house, he said.

Police charged the resident of the home, Thomas Sanford, 28, along with James Roger Avery, 36, of Georgia, Angelique Ramsey, 30, of Rainelle, and Richard Barker, 25, of Eccles, with one count each of operating or attempting to operate a clandestine methamphetamine lab Snyder said.

Avery was wanted on undisclosed charges out of Georgia, Snyder added.

Greenbrier County Sheriff’s deputies assisted in the investigation.

All four were transported to Southern Regional Jail and arraigned in Greenbrier Magistrate Court. Barker and Avery were at SRJ Tuesday evening.
