State Police have arrested two additional suspects in a Monday home invasion in Smithers, while dismissing the charge of robbery against the man initially arrested.
Donald Scott Wills, 44, was charged Tuesday in the investigation of the incident that alleged the suspects may have pretended to be members of the West Virginia State Police.
A Thursday State Police press release said that information discovered in the investigation led to the dismissal of the original robbery charge against Wills.
However, they added that charges will be filed which more accurately reflect Wills’ alleged level of involvement in the incident.
Wednesday, State Police obtained information related to the identity of the two additional suspects.
Cpl. M.A. Elswick and Sgt. K.E. Tawes, of the Gauley Bridge Detachment arrested Don Naylor, 48, and Michael Scarbro, 29, both of Smithers, for their roles in the home invasion.
Both were charged Thursday with robbery, burglary and conspiracy to commit a felony. They were arraigned in Fayette County Magistrate Court and are lodged at Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bond each.
State Police also said that further investigation revealed that the suspects did not represent themselves as state troopers, rather they simply identified themselves as being law enforcement officers.
The State Police said there is no uniform or jacket missing and no such items were recovered as a result of this investigation.
