Police anticipate arrest in armed robbery case

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Police expect to arrest a suspect in a Friday night armed robbery in White Sulphur Springs early next week, confirmed White Sulphur Springs Assistant Police Chief Jerry Smith.

Smith said he responded to the report of an armed robbery around 10 p.m. Friday at the Liquor Shop on East Main Street in White Sulphur Springs.

The clerk told police a male wearing dark clothing and a hoodie entered the store with a gun, told him to get down on the floor, and fled the scene with a money bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

After an extensive investigation and manhunt with members of the White Sulphur Police Department, Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police, police received permission to search a residence in White Sulphur Springs and located a large amount of cash, Smith explained.

Police expect to make an arrest no later than Wednesday, said Smith.
