Police investigate armed robbery on Harper Road

BECKLEY — Beckley Police are investigating an armed robbery early Friday morning at the Howard Johnson Express Inn on Harper Road, Capt. Jeff Shumate confirmed.

Shumate said two men wearing black ski masks and gloves entered the hotel around 1:15 a.m. Friday. One man pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the night clerk, who complied with the request.

Police said the two men fled east on Harper Road with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The clerk described the two men as black, both around 6 feet tall and between 180 and 200 pounds.

Police are currently interviewing witnesses and pulling surveillance videos from the hotel and surrounding businesses in an attempt to identify suspects.
