The criminal case against a Greenbrier County man suspected of raping a 12-year-old girl was bound over to a grand jury after a magistrate found probable cause during a preliminary hearing Thursday.
Albert Ray Martin, 34, of Quinwood, is being held at Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bond. Martin was charged with first-degree sexual assault on Oct. 19.
According to court documents, police allege Martin spotted the young girl walking near Charmco and gave her a ride. Martin then allegedly sexually assaulted her after threatening her with a 9mm handgun.
The girl’s father and a sheriff’s deputy testified during the three-hour hearing before Magistrate Brenda Campbell.
The next Greenbrier County grand jury is scheduled to convene in February. If convicted, Martin faces 15 to 35 years in prison.
