Police on the lookout for purse snatcher

Beckley police detectives are looking for two people who they believe stole a woman’s purse in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Oct. 17.

The theft occurred between 8 and 8:30 p.m., Detective Cpl. S.L. McClure said.

Police say the suspects drove around the parking lot looking for a victim prior to snatching a 40-year old woman’s purse and fleeing the scene.

“People should be aware of their surroundings,” McClure said. “Keep your purse secure.”

Before unloading purchases, McClure suggests women secure their purses in the trunk or front seat of their vehicle. Do not leave it unattended, he said.

And in the event you are attacked, do not fight a robber asking for your purse.

“Let them have it,” McClure said.

Police are looking for a middle-aged, heavy-set white male who is about 5-foot-8 or 5-9.

His female accomplice is believed to be in her mid-20s to early 30s with brownish blonde hair.

The suspects were last seen driving a white, four-door, older model Honda sedan with a piece of plastic covering a broken window on the driver’s side.

The vehicle also had a burned-out headlight.
