A Maryland man was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center with injuries following a motorcycle accident in Fayette County Sunday afternoon, Gauley Bridge police said.
Frank E. Wimmersberger, 65, of Elkton, lost control of his 2007 Harley Davidson around 3:48 p.m. near Cathedral Falls while heading east on U.S. 60, said Patrolman C.L. Burkhemer, of the Gauley Bridge Police Department.
According to Burkhemer’s preliminary investigation, Wimmersberger lost control of his motorcycle in some sand on the side of the road. He then hit some railroad tracks and couldn’t recover.
Wimmersberger was thrown from the bike onto some gravel, while the bike ended up on the railroad tracks, Burkhemer added. Burkhemer said that Wimmersberger’s wife, who was following her husband on another motorcycle, told him later that her husband possibly suffered broken ribs, a broken collar bone and head injuries.
Burkhemer described Wimmersberger’s injuries as nonlife-threatening. Gauley Bridge firefighters assisted at the scene, and General Ambulance transported Wimmersberger to CAMC.
