A Wednesday morning head-on collision left one woman dead and another in critical condition when the driver of a car tried to pass another vehicle, according to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers responded to the crash about 9 a.m. on Bolt Road (W.Va. 99) in Fairdale.
Chief Deputy Dave Stafford said Tina Parsons, 28, of Cyclone, was driving a blue 2008 Hyundai Tiburon and traveling east. Crash investigators determined Parsons attempted to pass a vehicle traveling in the same direction.
Parsons allegedly crossed a double yellow line and collided head-on with a westbound white 2002 Ford F-150 driven by Leonard Price, 39, of Oak Hill, Stafford said.
A passenger in the Tiburon was killed, Stafford said. Her identity was being withheld until her family could be notified, according to Stafford.
Parsons was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center, where she was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon. Price was released at the scene with no reported injuries.
Deputy R.E. Hall, Sheriff Steve Tanner and other personnel from the sheriff’s office are handling the investigation.
