Tickets remain for Elk fundraiser

— Tickets are still available for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s fourth annual Southern West Virginia Big Game Banquet and Benefit Auction. The event will be held Saturday starting at 5 p.m. at the Tamarack Conference Center.

Norman D. Moore, ticket coordinator for the banquet, said tickets will also be available at the door. He said the event usually draws 30-35 walkups on the day of the event.

“We have a little over 100 (reserved),” Moore said.

The banquet serves as a fundraiser for the southern West Virginia chapter of the RMEF, which aims “to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife and their habitat and our hunting heritage,” according to the organization’s website.

“What we are interested in is the conservation of land for wildlife and the enjoyment of people to be able to go into those places,” said Moore, he started volunteering for the RMEF 20 years ago. He added that the word is definitely out about the organization and its goals.

“We had (a banquet) in Kentucky two weeks ago, and we had a booth at Chief Logan (State Park in Logan),” he said.

Tickets for the banquet start at $30 for the meal and can be purchased by calling Moore at 304-549-3182. For more information, visit www.rmef.org or e-mail regional director Bill Carman at bcarman@rmef.org.
