BECKLEY — Dozens of tournaments, from qualifiers and amateur tours to  state championships, have been announced for 2013 by the West Virginia Golf Association.

“With hundreds of tournament days this coming season, there is sure to be something for everyone,” the WVGA’s Stefanie Hatcher said. “Men, women, junior girls and boys — everyone has an opportunity to play the game they enjoy so much.”

Some of top tournaments include:

n The 94th West Virginia Amateur Championship is Aug. 5-8 at The Greenbrier Resort. Qualifying will be conducted throughout the state to bring in the top 100 golfers.

n Last year’s Amateur champion, Pat Carter, will represent West Virginia in the PGA’s Greenbrier Classic, July 4-7 at The Greenbrier.

The Greenbrier Classic, in just three years, has become one of the top sports events in the state.

Many of the PGA’s most popular golfers, including Tiger Woods, Tom Watson and Phil Mickelson, competed last year on the Old White TPC course in White Sulphur Springs.

n The 80th West Virginia Open is June 19-21 at Parkersburg Country Club. It will feature the best amateur and professional golfers from West Virginia.

They’ll face a 6,927-yard, par 72 test of golf. Qualifying is across the state, and several new sites have been added, including Pipestem State Park.

n The scenic and challenging Stonehaven Course at The Resort at Glade Springs will host the West Virginia Women’s Amateur July 30-Aug. 1.

Among the other competitions are the Father-Child Championship July 27-28, and the Four-Ball Championship  June 1-2. Both events are at The Resort at Glade Springs.

Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston will host the Mid-Amateur Championship May 10-12, and Stonewall Resort in Roanoke (Lewis County) will be the site of the 2-Man Scramble Aug. 23-24.

n The Top Flite Junior Tour has been renamed the Callaway Junior Tour, and will commence with two consecutive events May 28 at The Greenbrier.

The Callaway Junior Tour will also appear May 29 at Lewisburg Elks, May 30 at Pipestem State Park, June 11 at The Resort at Glade Springs and June 12 at Twin Falls Resort.

n The Wendy’s Amateur Tour will have 12 events, concluding Sept. 10 at The Resort at Glade Springs. A July 20 date at Twin Falls Resort is now on the schedule.

n The West Virginia Senior Series will be played at 23 courses, from April 1 through Oct. 23. Area sites are Clear Fork Valley Country Club May 30, Lewisburg Elks June 26 and The Greenbrier Course at The Greenbrier Resort Oct. 23.
