Daniels wins Raleigh County championship

BECKLEY — Daniels defeated Stanaford 26-24 in a nip and tuck battle to capture the Raleigh County elementary schools basketball championship Tuesday played at Independence Middle School.

The win was the second championship for Daniels in the past three seasons, while Stanaford was looking to repeat as champions.

Daniels was led by Todd Duncan with 13 points and Stanaford also received 13 points from Bradden Chapman.

Crescent won the consolation game, defeating Maxwell Hill 44-27 behind 19 points from Brock Lasure and 10 from Ayden Ince.

Maxwell Hill was led by Zi McClain with seven points and Carson Eckley with six.

Finally, warmer weather has arrived to the Mountain State. I’m told, it’s socially acceptable to be late nowadays and there is even a term for it — being fashionably late. Of course, I have also been told that camo is the new black in fashion. I don’t care much for tardiness, or for fashion for that matter, but I am perfectly content with the weather forecaster’s report as of late. And if wearing camouflage is trendy, I will fit in just nicely at any social gathering.
