Glade Springs invites area residents to play golf at Woodhaven

BECKLEY — If you’ve ever dreamed of hitting the lush fairways of The Resort at Glade Springs, but needed a little added incentive, now is your chance.

“We are inviting our neighbors from the neighboring counties, including Raleigh, and those who reside in those counties to come and try out Woodhaven Golf Course,”  Glade Springs director of golf Mike James said.

The Woodhaven Course, designed by the acclaimed Tom Clark, who also designed Stonehaven, was opened in 2010.

“Woodhaven is our newest course,” James explained. “It’s an absolutely stunning golf course. There are no houses around the golf course. There’s a lot of elevation. The golf course is well manicured and in great shape.”

The course features two beautiful nine-hole loops, overlooking Glade Creek Gorge and a steep beautiful valley, surrounded by elegant rock outcroppings and a forest view surrounded with oak, hickory and magnificent rhododendrons.

The rate to play Woodhaven is $40 plus tax on Tuesday-Thursday and $55 plus tax Friday-Sunday and holidays.

Reservations during the week may be made up to seven days in advance, while the weekend tee times may be reserved 72 hours in advance.

James said the decision to offer the discounted rate to residents of the region was an easy one.

“We just wanted to give players in the local area a chance to play the golf course,” he said. “I think a lot of people think it’s private and they can’t get through the gates. So we want to open it up, let people through the gates and allow the surrounding area a chance to come in, play golf on a beautiful course and have something to eat while they’re at it.”

To book a tee time for Woodhaven, contact the Glade Springs golf shop at 304-763-3509.

Finally, warmer weather has arrived to the Mountain State. I’m told, it’s socially acceptable to be late nowadays and there is even a term for it — being fashionably late. Of course, I have also been told that camo is the new black in fashion. I don’t care much for tardiness, or for fashion for that matter, but I am perfectly content with the weather forecaster’s report as of late. And if wearing camouflage is trendy, I will fit in just nicely at any social gathering.
