Bowles finishes second at PGA Junior Series event

Oceana 14-year-old finishes four strokes off the leader

MANSFIELD, Ohio — Despite being the youngest competitor in the Boys 15-18 division, Oceana’s Colin Bowles finished second at the PGA Junior Series event at Westbrook Country Club.

Bowles, the youngest player in the Boys 15-18 division at 14, fired the lowest third round score of 73 for a three day total of 220 over the 6,787-yard, par-72 course. Bowles was just four shots off the leader, Garrett Buckley of Novi, Michigan.

Bowles has also qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship to be played July 21-26 at The Club at Carlton Woods (Nicklaus Course) in The Woodlands, Texas.

The six day event has 156 junior golfers from all over the world and is played as stroke play for the first two days. The field is then cut to the lowest 64 scores and becomes a match play format until a champion is crowned.

Bowles has made a habit of setting course records this summer. After setting the course record at Clear Fork Valley Golf Course by firing a 59 just a couple months, he broke his own record Thursday by shooting a 58.
