Sports Legends Reunion looking for old photos

From Staff Reports

— The Sports Legends Annual Reunion will take place this summer in Beckley, giving sports heros from every era and every part of the state a chance to get together and share old stories, memories, photos and more.

First, though, event organizer Jack Lilly is hoping to find more information to add to the event’s brochure, always a popular feature of the reunion.

Lilly is searching for pictures and newspaper clipping from area football and basketball teams from the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s. He’s especially interested in information from schools that no longer exists, such as Mark Twain, Trap Hill, Marsh Fork, Sophia, Stoco, Collins, Talcott, Alderson, Hinton, Sandstone and Mount Hope. He’s also looking for clippings from Oak Hill and Fayetteville, along with the Richmond District 6-man football team.

Anybody who has information on those schools is encouraged to call Lilly at 330-484-3544.

Last year’s Sports Legends Reunion brought the likes of Don Nuckols, Lewis D’Antoni, Bob Pruett, Tex Williams, Herbie Brooks, Dave Barksdale, Bane Sarrett, Paul Greer, Pat Fragile, Willie Akers and Lonnie Warwick to the Beckley Moose Lodge.
