Hwang takes tough loss for Miners

BUTLER, Pa. — Jaesung Hwang’s earned run average remained zero. The one in his loss column, however, is gone.

Two errors led to two unearned runs and the West Virginia Miners lost 2-1 Saturday to the Butler BlueSox.

Hwang (3-1) took the loss despite turning in arguably his best outing of the season. He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter, and limited the BlueSox — a team he had already beaten twice this season — to three hits over eight innings.

The BlueSox took a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Alex Miklos singled and took second on an error to lead it off. He advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Matt Peters’ sacrifice fly.

West Virginia tied the game on Pat Kregeloh’s third home run of the season, a solo shot in the sixth.

With one out in the eighth, Russell Clark was hit by a pitch and went all the way to third one batter later on an error. Clark then stole home to make it a 2-1 game.

The teams play again at 6:35 p.m. today in Butler.
