Miners back Hess in win over Sliders

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — West Virginia Miners pitcher David Hess remained undefeated on the year, limiting Slippery Rock to just three hits and one run, leading the Miners past the Sliders 4-1 Friday. He had five strikeouts to raise his Prospect League-leading total to 38.

The Miners opened up the scoring in the sixth on a Pat Kregeloh RBI single and followed that up with a three-run seventh to give Hess (4-0) all the room he needed. Kaeo Aliviado and Vince Bartolone drove in one apiece in the big seventh inning.

Dale Davis added three hits, including a triple, for the Miners.

The Miners (12-10), winners of three of their last four, travel to Butler, Pa., to open a two-game series at 6:35 p.m. today.
