VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. —
The road was not kind to the Southern West Virginia King's Warriors this weekend.
The Beckley-based squad from the United Soccer League’s Premier Development League fell 3-2 to the Virginia Piranhas Saturday to lose both games of their weekend road trip.
Southern W.Va. surrendered a goal in the 82nd minute Friday night to fall 1-0 to the Northern Virginia Royals in Fairfax, Va.
The two losses have put a big dent in the 4-6-0 King's Warriors playoff chances, but Southern West Virginia is still mathematically alive in the PDL’s South Atlantic Division.
Jerjer Gibson scored twice Saturday for Virginia Beach, and the Piranhas also benefitted from an own goal by the King’s Warriors. Southern West Virginia got goals from Billy Forbes and Jon Grant.
The King’s Warriors trailed 2-0 before getting one back just before the half to trail 2-1 after 45 minutes.
A night earlier in Fairfax, Southern West Virginia saw its three-game winning streak ended when Joseph Barnd scored the game’s lone goal late in the game.
The King’s Warriors are still winless on the road in four outings this season, and have been outscored 13-1 in games away from Beckley.
Southern W.Va. will return home to host the Northern Virginia Royals at 7 p.m. Friday at Carter Family Foundation Field at the YMCA’s Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex.
