“You can’t get much closer to Sunday football than Sunday roller derby,” said Beckley Area Derby Dames jammer St. Brawly Girl, No. 7.
“Bring your father out for the Father’s Day Fallout!”
The Beckley Area Derby Dames will battle it out with their Charleston rival, the Chemical Valley Roller Girls Sunday, Father’s Day, at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
Doors open at 2 p.m. and the whistle blows at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door for adults, $5 for kids ages 6 to 12 and children ages 5 and under get in free.
The dames encourage everyone to try something new this Father’s Day, and they promise Dad won’t be disappointed.
“Roller derby has more action than most men’s sports,” Hollywood Hiplash, No. 328, said.
At Father’s Day Fallout, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Pine Haven Center, which offers emergency shelter to 150 men, women, children and families, according to the Raleigh County Community Action Association.
Pine Haven Center also offers case management, referral services, crisis intervention, and counseling services.
BADD blocker Burn N Kell Elkins, #420, said she couldn’t imagine being anywhere else on Father’s Day than skating with her dames.
“All my dad wanted to do was see me skate,” Burn N Kell said. “I guess he has the best seat in the house.”
Families, friends, and kids of all ages are invited to come see some live roller derby action.
